Addison participated in the Garfield County Fair Horse Fun Day on Friday. She went just for fun and ended up winning overall in her division! She won first with barrels, flags, hide pull and the sweethearts race.
*Barrels are a series of 3 barrels set up at intervals and the rider runs a figure 8 pattern around the 3 barrels without knocking them down.
*Flags are two barrels set up with a bucket on top of each one of them. The rider starts out with a flag, deposits it in the first bucket and picks up a flag in the second bucket and runs back home.
*The hide pull is just that - someone rides a horse pulling a cow hide - or in this race today - a rubber mat, the participant jumps on the moving hide at the opposite end of the arena and are then pulled home. *Sweetheart race is where a sweetheart - in this case - Jeff - waited for Addison to run to the opposite end of the arena - jump up on a barrel and then dress in some frilly costume. After she is complete - Jeff took off to the barrel - Addison jumped on with her dad and off they raced for home.
The other events she didn't place first - but gained enough points to take overall! Grandma Schmutz was all smiles I am sure! Way to go Addison!
Baylee Beckstead - she taught Addison once a week this summer - and it paid off! Thank you Baylee!
Addison's friend Allie won first place in her division too!
