Love Her!

August 16, 2014

Can I just say how much I love this girl?  Leighton snapped this pic at the fair while waiting for Addison in the ball.  She is absolutely beautiful - inside and out!

Garfield County Fair - Round 2!

August 16, 2014:

Saturday the girls and I headed over to the county fair for the fun stuff.  Biggest hit?  The ball!

I was surprised Leighton decided to give it a try.  Once was enough but she smiled the whole time and loved it when I would spin her around!

Kimber finally gave it a try too!

Yep I even got a turn!

Addison vs Leighton with Kimber cheering on in the background!

Face off with Kendra!

Leighton loved the bounce house.

Leighton and Hadlee taking a break...

But she was a good sport and tried out everything:)

So Addison may have liked the climbing wall just a little bit more than the ball.  She loves a challenge.  She started off on the 2nd wall and conquered that pretty easily.

Then moved to the easy wall and sailed up the side.

Worked on the 3rd wall while Kimber gave it a go.

And worked and worked until she conquered the 4th and hardest wall.  The crew was impressed as they had only had one teen boy who had made it up the hard wall.  Other kids were standing around and cheering her on as well!

Great day and year at the fair!

Garfield County Fair Champion!

August 15, 2014

Addison participated in the Garfield County Fair Horse Fun Day on Friday.  She went just for fun and ended up winning overall in her division!  She won first with barrels, flags, hide pull and the sweethearts race.
*Barrels are a series of 3 barrels set up at intervals and the rider runs a figure 8 pattern around the 3 barrels without knocking them down.
*Flags are two barrels set up with a bucket on top of each one of them.  The rider starts out with a flag, deposits it in the first bucket and picks up a flag in the second bucket and runs back home.
*The hide pull is just that - someone rides a horse pulling a cow hide - or in this race today - a rubber mat, the participant jumps on the moving hide at the opposite end of the arena and are then pulled home. *Sweetheart race is where a sweetheart - in this case - Jeff  - waited for Addison to run to the opposite end of the arena - jump up on a barrel and then dress in some frilly costume.  After she is complete - Jeff took off to the barrel - Addison jumped on with her dad and off they raced for home.
The other events she didn't place first - but gained enough points to take overall!  Grandma Schmutz was all smiles I am sure!  Way to go Addison!

Baylee Beckstead - she taught Addison once a week this summer - and it paid off! Thank you Baylee!

Addison's friend Allie won first place in her division too!

It ended up being a really great day for Addison!  Her saddle came she has been saving up for all summer.  Her dad went in half with her.  She's really growing up!

Return to the Temple

August 13,14, 2014:

Garrett asked earlier this summer if we would let him go up to the Ogden Temple open house with a few friends.  It just so happened that his dad was conveniently able to get a few days off work and join in their fun!  I know Garrett has some pictures - but trying to get them from him - well.  Maybe Jeff's will just have to do!  They went to the open house on Wednesday and Scheels and then laser tagging.  The girls stayed the night at Grandpa and Grandma Finch's while the boys stayed with Evan.  They went to Lagoon Thursday and returned home happy!  A successful trip!  So glad going to the temple was the reason - or maybe the excuse!  But still just as grateful Garrett has some pretty great friends!  Alas - Jeff didn't get any pics of them at the temple!

Girls Camping Trip

August 1, 2014

Jeff took the girls camping up West Hunt at the first of August.  Just a daddy - daughter date.  They all had a pretty great time!  I was on call and Garrett had a date so we were left home alone:(  Next time we will have to make sure they take us!

Tropic Splashpad

August 11, 2014:

The girls and I took a trip over to the new Tropic splash pad with a couple of other moms and their kids.  I thought it was a little disappointing at first glance, but in the end - it was a blast!  The kids played and played and played.  In the background you can see the park playground and they just went back and forth between the two areas of the park.  A great way to spend one of the last days of summer!

Salt Lake City and Ogden Temple Openhouse

August 8, 2014:

Friday morning of our summer vacation we headed down to Salt Lake City to the temple for Austin and Elle's wedding.  Austin in the son of Jamalyn - Jeff's sister.  What a beautiful day!  We got there a little early and were able to walk through temple square a little bit before we headed inside the temple and let the kids wander a little more!

The first time ever I have seen the windows on the top floor open!  I love this temple.  When I was young, we used to go to SLC every 3 months for meetings my dad had.  Mom, Nancy and I would spend hours on temple square and in Crossroads Mall.  Great memories!

Austin and Elle:

One tired girl on our way up to the Odgen Temple openhouse.  Her cousins had decorated her hair with flowers from Temple Square.  Only a few survived the morning!

Leighton's favorite cousin - Sadie!  Jason and LeiAnn's oldest daughter:)

Hanging out just after the tour.  It was spectacular inside!  A beautiful temple!  Hoping that our kids remember these little experiences and want the temple to be their goal!
