October Catch Up!

Yup - I have been a little behind on my blogging.  This is all just a little catch-up.  There is an event that happens every year in October that leaves all the girls behind at home for a little while - sometimes a longer while than a shorter while.  The Deer Hunt - yes this deserved the capital letters for pure fact that in some households it is considered a formal holiday - Ours included.  I think this was up Mammoth Creek on the opening morning of the deer hunt.
One road that Jeff and Garrett took had this sign coming out on the other end.  They said there were roads like this all over - they said they were open on one end and then coming out the other side they would find out it had been closed - oops!
There were also several mud bogs - I love what is interesting to Garrett - and this was it.  He said they ended up crossing to the right of where this photo was and really bottomed out trying to get across.  Better that than get stuck I guess!

Later that night they pulled over and set up camp.  This is why maybe I do the cooking at home!  Actually Garrett said they were really good and not burned at all - just the grease dripping down made it look like dinner that night was hamburgers ala scorch!
Although their hunt was unsuccessful - they saw quite a few deer - I just think they really didn't want all the work that comes from having a successful hunt and just wanted the outing for the experience of it!

The Bard Is Back

This year Panguitch High School's fall play was The Bard Is Back.  It's about a high school putting on a musical of Romeo and Juliet.  McKenna played Denise.  Let me just say this - the play was type cast - I will explain later.  It was a great play - lots and lots of laughs.  It played for 4 nights and either Jeff or I went to it each night.  Each night was great and just as funny.  They all did a great job!  McKenna had quite a few solo's within the songs and sang so incredibly well!

Here is where I mean it was type cast.  Totally a blond role - maybe that's why she dyed her hair brown!

McKenna, well I guess I should say Denise, in the play tries out for Juliet and wins the spot only to break her leg tripping over a box.  Here she is being wheeled off stage.

I guess girls will get what they want even in a play.  The girl to sing with Romeo is yanked off the "balcony" by McKenna, who in turn is pulled off the balcony by the school's Diva.  So Romeo ends up with 3 Juliet's to sing to.  This song was really my favorite.

Two of the Juliet's.

Romeo with his 3 Juliet's.  Not all guys are this lucky!  Left to Right:  McKenna, Austin Josie, Lauren Smith, Brenna Mooney.

It's Jerky Time!

Jeff was successful in bagging this 6 point elk on the opening day of the big bull hunt this past Saturday - September 17th.  It came in around 300 points with 16" brow tines.  They were in Deep Creek on Mount Dutton.  He got it around 4 in the afternoon and spent the next day and a half getting it out on 3 pack horses besides their 3 they were riding on.  They left Friday afternoon and were planning on camping out under the stars.  However a huge thunder and lighting storm was raging and they came back off the mountain, picked up our little camper and roughed it in relative warmth and dryness at least for the first night.  The second night they were too far away to make it back and were thankful that at least it wasn't stormy that second night.

Brad and Justin Reeve - father and son went along with Jeff for the hunt.  An interesting note is that Uncle Tony taught Brad in Hurricane when he was a teacher there.

The view of  Deep Creek on Mount Dutton.  It's hard to tell how steep it is in this area, but Jeff said the elk kept trying to roll down the mountainside.  It was really quite deep, more than what you can see too.  He said Brad and Justin had a small chainsaw with them that they had to use in cutting their way out at the bottom of the ravine.

Two of the 6 horses, Bud on the right - Jeff's oldest horse (22 years).  The other horse belongs to Troy Henrie.  Another interesting note - Troy and my cousin Kelly Heaton served missions together!  It really is a small world!

Labor Day 2011

Ahhh, the joys of getting out to Moccasin for a little break!  Love it!  Labor Day we went out with Nancy and her family and Andrea and hers.  Gilbert showed up and so with mom and dad there we had a nice little get together.  Nothing fancy, not even a lot of work done - just the screen doors hung in the front - but just right.  Not to hot, a few little rain showers, a little swimming at the Indian Reservoir, a little food.  Just right!  Oh did I say that already?  Well - it was just right!

A dirty little face = a happy little girl!

You can tell it was a good day if the kids fall asleep before you even get to the Indian Village!

Cowboy Up

Addison's New Friend

Jeff went to go pick up Sisco - our horse that was with a trainer and came back with a kitten to boot!  Addison has adopted it ever since!  It LOVES her!  He is even ok with the tramp time she insists on!

Hay Crop 2011

We got a bumper crop of hay this year.  Well, we had a bumper crop of hay this year until the wonderful weather decided to change it's forecast and decided to rain almost a week straight!  Anyways - it was fun to watch it get cut!

One bright spot were all of the rainbows.  This one was impressive although it's hard to tell by the photo - a complete double rainbow!
